Welcome to Shellie Writes!

Please feel free to comment on anything I post and to post information about favorite books, events or any tips about publishing and all aspects of the written word. The only ground rules are that we maintain a high level of language and a respectful communication space here. Opinions may differ. Agreement is not necessary; argument is not encouraged.

I'd like to share a Cinquain I recently wrote. The Cinquain is a distinctly American poetic form which you can read about here: I chose the syllable form for a poem about our recent winter storm here in South Carolina.

My week
Icebound longing
Birds in feeding frenzy
Reveal the pecking order rules
Home school
Here's another...the form is 2,4,6,8,2...
Worship mountains
Covered in hard packed snow
Offering sport, to others dread
Stay home
Try one!!

  1. Well, getting used to the blogging thing, I can't see where I start a new topic. All I seem to be able to do is post a here is a comment:
Read two excellent books last month. One was "The Lacuna" by Barbara Kingsolver. A fascinating piece in a creative format, set in the period just after WWI and through WWII, this is a wonderful exploration of important political and relationship themes. I'd say it's a must read for thinking folks.
And Kingsolver is a great writer...she penned "The Poisonwood Bible" which is up there on my 5 favorite books of my lifetime list.
The other book...I'll save for another comment...

  2. Hmmm, I just discovered the pencil...maybe that's the way. Will try that next time...

  3. I've heard great things about "The Lacuna" but haven't read yet.
